Session 2, CUSP, NYU

Our second session was in the Center for Urban Science and Progress. The presentation helped me to understand the main role and goals of the center, projects the center is involved in and how urban informatics are performed and used to make cities and in particular NYC more efficient, to improve the urban systems and quality of life in it.Image

Session 1, Acceleration Group

At our second session with Ale and Brian we gained insight about how innovation in NYC is commercialized and the main factors for launching businesses in the city. The presenters also touched on the weaknesses and strengths of the city, and what really caught my attention were mainly the weaknesses, and in particular the frustration of New Yorkers when it comes to innovation. In the same time, its interesting how the role of innovation in the City increased significantly after the financial crisis and efforts New York makes to catch up with Silicon Valley, to be competitive and retain its talents.

At the end of the session, we also did a simulation on a due diligence business case, which helped us to think about the information we need to understand a business in which we would like to invest in.

Session 2, Kulper & Company

Key lessons learned from Mr. Kulper:

–          Be proud of CEU

–          Know your value proposition

–          Be prepared and relaxed

–          Be confident

–          Say something smart

–          Read ‘What colour is your parachute’

I liked the idea of having everyone from the group to write a sentence about advantages of the CEU MBA program.

Day 3, New York module ‘Leading and Enterprise in a Global City’

Tuesday, 22nd of May, 2014

Session 1, Pfizer, Aaron Foster

Aaron’s presentation provided us with a deep insight about Pfizer’s operations in Emerging markets and the company’s expectations about the future. The most important take away was the understanding of how data driven business analysis can support the business decision making.

Session 2, Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP

I believe all of us enjoyed very much our last session for the week with Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman LLP.  The topic about FCPA was engaging and the presenters brought many practical and useful examples as well. I was impressed by their hospitality and their openness to get know us better.
